Phil Carulli

I commenced my career 22 years ago as an accountant working for a Public Company.  This beginning provided a great understanding of accounting concepts but I found I was drawn towards tax and public practice due to the greater diversity of work.  In 1999 I began working in a mid-tier firm and found this timing was ideal due to the significant tax changes that were occurring including the introduction of GST.

My passion is working closely with clients and spending time in their business to gain a better understanding of their financial affairs.  This allows me to provide better and more timely advice.

My areas of expertise include construction industry, property taxation issues, including property investment vs development, capital gains tax, GST, business structuring for tax efficiency and asset protection, taxation and business planning and self-managed superannuation funds.

I also work closely with a number of technology and start-up businesses assisting them with structuring, raising capital, growth strategy through to IPO/ICO, along with providing corporate compliance and governance whilst acting as Company Secretary and Director.

I have been a Chartered Accountant since 2001, am a registered self-managed superannuation fund (SMSF) auditor and specialist SMSF advisor.  I am also a member of the Institute of Company Directors.

In a former life I was a lawnmower man, working in the family business (est. 1956) and a musician. Now I spend my time with my wife and two children and enjoying the company of friends and family.

Enrico De Pietro

My working career began when I was thirteen, not as an accountant but in food and retail.  Having worked for so many years, I understand what it means to make sacrifices, work hard and provide for your family.  I believe the role of an accountant is that of the trusted adviser.

With my 25 years of experience in public practice, I’m able to advise, strategise and implement procedures to assist clients with the trials and tribulations of operating a family business.  I’ve assisted clients with business start-up, business sales and succession planning. I  prefer open channels of communication with my clients and encourage them to contact me as often as they like.  I prefer to get out of the office and visit clients so I can see how their businesses operate.

I’ve been a director of Optima Partners since January 2007.  I’m a Fellow member of CPA Australia, a Chartered Accountant, a registered self-managed superannuation fund auditor and a specialist SMSF adviser.

When I’m not working, I love to holiday with my wife and two young children, go on fishing and camping trips, socialise with friends and listen to music.

Ross Stagno

Having been raised within a family business, I vividly remember living the highs and lows with my parents and I developed a deep respect and admiration for them when I was growing up.  Over the years I watched, listened and learned that the accountants role within a business owners life was quite important.  It was a big part of why I chose to be an accountant!

After I began my career I quickly learned how important the role of an accountant was for a business owner. The requirement for advice and support is ongoing and we need to be able to really understand our clients to ensure that we meet their needs and achieve their results in a time and cost effective manner.

The world has changed and evolved significantly and it’s obvious that technology has significantly disrupted the ways that we do business and will likely continue to do so in the future. The fluctuations in the WA economy have only added to these challenges.  However, my experiences in the industry have taught me that this ever changing environment can present challenges, but also many opportunities as long as we are able to stay open minded and embrace the change.

Being one of the first accountants in Perth to use cloud based software and tools has allowed me to build strong and lasting relationships with my clients in the Real Estate, Construction, Medical and Professional Services industries and provide them with the advisory services required to build their businesses and achieve their goals.

When I am not working you can find me with my wife and baby boy out and about in Perth, or out on my boat enjoying the best of what the WA coastline has to offer.
